Restaurants

We’re happy to recommend local restaurants in Padstow and further a field.  We are very lucky to have lots of top restaurants within a mile of the B&B. However, some should be booked well in advance, especially during High Days and Holidays.

  1. The Seafood Restaurant (1 mile)

Very famous restaurant owned by Rick & Jill Stein for over 40 years. It is superb for fish – as you would imagine. In the summer you will have to book in February to be sure of a table!  In the winter, it is easier and worth every penny.  Everything about the food is fantastic, not fussy ‘haut cuisine’ or Michelin Star stuff but the fish at its freshest and finest – the menu for the day is only decided when the catch comes in that morning. The service and the quality of wines is what you would expect at one of the country’s finest restaurants.  The restaurant is deceptively large, bright and airy with walls strewn with modern art.  There is a ‘Drop-in’ bar (that is not bookable) you should try. It is not as expensive as you would think!

  2. Caffè Rojano by Paul Ainsworth (1 mile)

Hidden at the end of the narrow lane, you will find this very good seasonal small plates, deli sandwiches, beautiful sourdough pizzas and fresh pasta dishes. Rojano is a flexible, fun and relaxed restaurant. Part of the Paul Ainsworth family of restaurants, consequently, good quality and good value, and very busy!

  3. Burgers & Fish (0.5 miles)

Up the steps from the road leading from the Harbour. The burgers are well designed and delicious, however, there has been some issues with the buns for the burgers that have bothered us – they do get a bit soggy! But the menu is different and quite diverse – not your normal fancy burger joint.

  4. Rick Stein’s Bistro (1 mile)

The Bistro is where you will experience dishes from Ricks travels around the world. It has a small, well presented menu with a fish accent, and also wonderful steak dishes. It is informal and has delightful ‘chatty’ staff.

  5. Rick Stein’s Café (1 mile)

Good, quick food at very good value. The Café has recently improved in quality and has an intimate feel about it. There is a nice little courtyard garden to sit in the Summer.

  6. Paul Ainsworth at No. 6 (1 mile)

Paul Ainsworth is one of the country’s best chefs, along with head chef Chris McClurg, this restaurant is superb and in October 2012, won a Michelin Star, the first in Padstow! The menu is very well set out, some dishes you will know; some re-designed comfort food; some highly innovative dishes and puddings to die for! Always leave some room as it is virtually a law that you taste Paul’s puddings! The service is very attentive and the dishes beautifully presented, the flavours are well crafted. Closed Sunday evening and Monday.

  7. Prawn on the Lawn Fishmonger and Seafood Bar (1 mile)

With a branch in London, this is a tiny fish bar and fresh fish monger. Possibly the best example of fish Tapas in the South West!  The menu changes all the time. Must haves; ‘Spiced Crushed Potatoes!’

Dog friendly but please check on booking.

  8. The Basement Café (1 mile)

A nice little café/bistro with beautifully cooked food – nothing too adventurous and very good value. The fish dishes are fabulous and on hot and balmy days and nights, or even cold winter nights, you can sit outside looking at the harbour, in a conservatory (with heaters for winter).

Dog friendly most moths of the year, but please check.

  9. Barnaby’s Bistro (1 mile)

Newly opened in 2018 and is a sister restaurant to Prawn on the Lawn. It is, like Prawn on the Lawn, tiny – only 20 covers. Barnaby’s has a more meaty menu, with a lot of smoked and charcoal cooking, the aroma of bar-b-que hits you as you come through the entrance. An innovative tapas-style menu that changes each month. It has two sittings an early sitting 6:15pm or 7:15pm and a late sitting 8:15pm or 9:15 pm. You can only book online.

  10. The Olive Tree (2 miles)

A small, well presented bistro serving pasta, pizza and steaks at a good standard. Lovely special dishes each day at a reasonable price, served in a friendly atmosphere. A nice place to go to out of the melee of Padstow. Open for Brunch and Dinner.

    • Well worth a try
  11. Trevisker’s Kitchen (1.5 miles)

This is quite a new eatery, at The Trevisker Garden Centre, just half a mile out of Padstow, on the way to Wadebridge. Chef Henk De Villiers is a well-know character around these parts and offers good bistro-style lunch and supper menu. Good for large parties. Very good menu and value.

    • Well worth a try
    • Dog Friendly
  12. Rafferty’s Café Wine Bar (2 miles)

Simple, short winter menu being serve Wednesday to Sunday (close for food Sunday night to Tuesday in winter); summer is like a party every night, busy and lots of music. A menu with tapas, steaks cooked to perfection and great value. Ed Rafferty, being the consummate Irish host, has built a bar with ‘atmosphere’ and a bit of style thrown in.

    Dogs allowed in the bar.

  13. Bistro at The Old Mill (2.5 miles)

A charming B&B, beside the bridge, in the pretty village of Little Petherick – on the way to Wadebridge. Well-cooked, simple menu, served in a very lovely setting. The restaurant is ‘olde-worlde’ and spacious. The food is a cross between innovative and comforting. Home made bread baking welcomes you, and gentle efficient service makes this a very good place for a quiet or intimate dinner.

  14. The Bridge Bistro (7 miles)

Opened in May 2010, this is a lovely little bistro in Wadebridge in an old chapel with high ceilings, solid white walls and arched gothic windows. Phil Wilson in the kitchen. The menu is short, breakfast, lunch and dinner also takeaway menu. All well put together and the well cooked dishes are nearly all changed daily. Keep room for pudding!

  15. Restaurant Nathan Outlaw (9 miles (via ferry))

This is a relatively new venture for Nathan, moving from Rock to Port Isaac. Fine dining at its best that not only boasts 2 Michelin Stars but has been voted one of the best fish restaurant in the country by Good Food Guide! A tasting menu with or without a range of partnered wines, beautifully cooked by Nathan himself (he will not open the restaurant if he is not there).

    Pub grub at its best.

  17. James Nathan at St Enodoc (13.5 miles)

Opened 2016 by James Nathan – BBC Masterchef Champion 2008 and is taking over from Nathan Outlaw – no pressure then, James! James, after around four years honing his craft at Rick Stein’s Seafood Restaurant, has created a modern, eclectic menu, with a “bit more meat” on the menu James says.
